Merle Burkholder has served in ministry for over 40 years, and shares practical frameworks to examine if we are suffering from burnout. There are many misunderstandings about burnout and what it is. In this bonus episode, he dives into how we can live sustainable lives of ministry, without overextending ourselves and losing our effectiveness in ministry.
Self-Assessment Questions:
- Has your level of performance decreased?
- Do you use outstanding performance in one area to cover failure in other areas?
- Fatigue – Do you come to work already feeling tired and depleted of energy?
- Do you have time for Bible reading, study, and prayer?
- Do you feel sad or weary and don’t know why?
- Do you no longer enjoy public functions?
- Do you complain to others that your load is too heavy?
- Are you making decisions that are merely band-aid solutions?
- Have your friends and family expressed concern for your wellbeing?

Merle Burkholder and his wife Edith live in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada. They have five children. They have spent the last 45 years in mission work.
